What a pity all these documents that are never used!
Do you know what often bothers me?
As a researcher, a Professor, and supervisor of Ph.D. or Master's students, I know that after several years of hard work, students write a research document, a Ph.D. or Masters' Dissertation that covers a given domain. These documents contain a lot of very important information and invaluable knowledge.
Just one single Ph.D. Dissertation is at least 150 pages long. Such a document is usually rich in information. On the average, you will find a literature review, detailed descriptions of experimental or modeling procedures, experimental results, useful data, full explanation and discussion of different hypotheses, and even unpublished results or failed attempts.
These documents are real gold mines with tremendous potential, only if we know how to exploit them.
Sadly, however, they are usually underused and rarely exploited, despite their free access.
The main reason for this is pretty straightforward. Don't get me wrong: you can easily find any Ph.D. Dissertation when you know its title and where it was published! This is a rather simple process since they are all listed in their University or the National database.
The real issues arise when people are not looking for a specific document, but for information instead. When they want to identify which documents are related to a given topic, things become problematic because they practically have no way to find out which dissertation(s) will contain the information they seek.
If you are a Librarian or work in a Documentation Centre, you will want to increase the visibility of all these documents, because you want to be sure that more people can easily find the information contained in all these documents in open access. You want to help propagate knowledge.
This is why we developed our search engine, "The Bridge". The Bridge doesn't focus on documents. Instead, it focuses on information. We analyze the information contained in each document, so people can find it, and they can do it easily thanks to our friendly intuitive user interface.
Moreover, the process is completely unbiased because all documents are equally treated in our database, regardless of their source of origin. We highlight their content, nothing more, nothing less.
If you are a Librarian or work in any Documentation Centre where public documents (Dissertations, reports, technical notes…) are produced, we can quickly help you increase their visibility and access, so more people who need them can find them.
We just need one thing: we must process these documents once so that the information contained within them can be entered into our knowledge base.
You will remain in full control of the process because our information base will connect our users to your website, where you host the given document.
So, contact us, and we'll show you just how easy "The Bridge" can help you connect people to the information in your charge.
